How to fix AI hands, faces and text without re-rolling
When a composition is right but one detail is wrong, a sixth re-roll is worse value than a single edit. Here is the repair workflow.

To fix a wrong hand, face or word in an AI image, inpaint the broken region instead of regenerating the whole picture. Mask only the area that is wrong, describe only what should be there, and the rest of the frame stays exactly as it is. One edit at 20 credits beats a lottery of full re-rolls at 20 credits each — and it keeps the composition you already liked.
Why does AI still get hands and text wrong?
Hands and text are high-information regions with little tolerance for error: five fingers in the right proportion, letters in the right order. A model that is 98% right across a whole image can still miss on the 2% that is a hand, because a slightly wrong cheek reads as fine while a slightly wrong hand reads as broken. That is why you repair the region rather than re-rolling the frame and hoping the dice land better.
The repair workflow, step by step
- Keep the good frame. Do not discard a composition you like because one detail failed.
- Open it in the editor and mask only the broken region — the hand, the eyes, the sign.
- Describe just that region.
a relaxed left hand, fingers together, resting on the table— not the whole scene. - Run the inpaint (20 credits). The model rebuilds only the mask and blends it into the untouched pixels around it.
- Repeat per region. Two bad hands are two small masks, not one big gamble.
Hands: mask small, describe the pose
Mask a little wider than the hand so the model has wrist context to blend into. Then describe the pose plainly — hand relaxed, fingers together, thumb visible. Avoid asking for anything acrobatic; a hand holding a simple object is far more reliable than fingers interlaced or a complex gesture.
Faces: fix eyes and teeth, keep identity
Most "off" faces are really off eyes or off teeth. Mask just those, keep the mask tight so you do not disturb the likeness, and describe the correction — symmetric eyes looking at camera, natural closed-mouth smile. If the whole face has drifted, that is a consistency problem better solved with a reference image than an inpaint.
Text: three words, or set it later
For a word or short label, use a typography-strong model such as GPT Image 1.5 and inpaint the exact string in quotes. For anything that must be perfect — a price, a logo lockup, legal copy — do not fight the model. Generate the art clean and set the type in your layout tool over the top. It is faster, exact, and lets you A/B different headlines against the same image.
When repair beats re-roll — and when it doesn't
Inpaint when the composition is right and a region is wrong. Re-roll when the composition itself is wrong. As a rule of thumb, once a frame is 90% there, editing is both cheaper and more certain than regenerating — you are spending one known 20-credit edit instead of an unknown number of 20-credit gambles. Open the image editor to try it, or start clean in the image generator.
